Serves 4

On crisp fall evenings, especially Halloween, this autumn-spiced mocktail will warm your heart as Halloween chills you to the bone! (In a fun way.) This recipe is especially good made with fresh-pressed cider from a local orchard. I like this with non-alcoholic rum or whiskey, which gives this drink a sophisticated taste, but it’s also good (and more kid-friendly) without it.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups fresh-pressed apple cider (or any apple cider)
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • 6 ounces non-alcoholic rum or whiskey, like Seedlip brand (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, combine apple cider, cinnamon sticks, vanilla, and cloves. Heat this mixture to a simmer.

  2. Remove the cinnamon sticks and place them in decorative mugs for your garnish. Pour one shot (about 1.5 ounces) of the non-alcoholic liquor over the cinnamon sticks, then fill with warm apple cider mixture. Serve warm.
